EnSAV Club

EnSAv club, an initiative of Green9 Energy efficiency research group that focus on sustainable development with a plan to corroborate the quest to reduce the carbon-di-oxide footprint by reducing power generation through effective energy audit and conservation thereby to design and develop, innovative technologies/ methodologies to improve the efficiency of the energy utilization. The also, promote the save energy / renewable energy awareness to the general public through events, advertisements and social medias.

PGP College of Engineering and Technology, Namakkal initiated to start the EnSAv Club through the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Dr. M. Akila, Principal, PGPCET and Mr. S. Kumaresan, Head of the Department planned this grand inaugural function on 06 October 2018. All the departments of PGPCET participated in this inaugural function with the guests and management team. Dr. L. Ramesh, Founder & Chairman of Energy Efficiency Research group and Dr. J. Balamurugan, Assistant Engineer, TNEB were the chief guest of the inaugural function.

Dr. K. Periyasamy, Dean AA, Mr. M. Ganapathy, Correspondent, Dr. M. Akila, Principal and Mr. K. Saravanakumar, Vice-Principal along with the chief guests inaugurated the function. The function started with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu followed by the lighting of Kuthuvizhakku.

Mr. T. Ponnusamy, Head of the department of Mechanical Engineering addressed the welcome speech. The inaugural address was given by Dr. K. Periyasamy, Dean AA followed by the Presidential Address by Mr. M. Ganapathy, Correspondent. Dr. M. Akila, Principal and Mr. K. Saravanakumar, Vice-Principal gave the Felicitation Address. Both the chief guest was honoured by Dean and Correspondent with memento.

Dr. L. Ramesh, Founder & Chairman of Energy Efficiency Research Group gave the Chief Guest Address. During his address, he discussed about the energy needs, industrial and domestic energy demands, energy generation, conservation and utilization. He also, discussed about the various methods that are involved in the energy saving technology. The importance and scope of energy auditing and various programmes conducted by Green9 in various colleges, he added.

A seminar on Need for Energy Conservation by Dr. J. Balamurugan, Assistant Engineer, TNEB was conducted post lunch of the programme. He discussed the various challenges faced by the energy demand in the country due to the tremendous growth of the industries that required MW power to operate. He also, discussed more about the power generating industries both government and private sectors that generate power to satisfy the power demand of the nation. However, the power wasted both in industrial and domestic during the generation, transmission and utilization is more, that when reduced can be one of the energy saving methods. He added, that many research works are in practice in energy saving. The energy audit is conducted in many places for analyzing the energy demand and utilization. Green9, conducts the energy audit through the students of various colleges as a field work or internship program.

PGPCET with Green9 has joined a team of students who will be the active members of energy saving club. Various activities shall be volunteered by the students.

The EnSAv club in PGPCET has a well team formed by the students of PGPCET from the department of electrical and electronics engineering. The team has various plans like undergoing internship program like energy auditing the residential places in and around their locality. Through this internship program the students will gain knowledge in energy demand, conservation, utilization and auditing. The various ideas of research on energy efficiency will be developed.

EUREKA 2019

A science fair is one of the unique ways of celebrating science. It also provides the opportunity for students, teachers and other people to improve their understanding in science and share their research projects and investigations. Indeed, a science fair is a good form of knowledge-building and social development. Above understanding of all, it brings out lot of hidden talents among our school students and give them opportunities and encourage them to manifest their talents, we are happy to state that we organized the EUREKA 2019-Science exhibition. During the inaugural function, our program was inaugurated by Honorable Minister for School Education Thiru.K.A.Sengottaiyan,in the presence of Honourable Minister for Electricity, Thiru P.Thangamani followed by felicitation by Honourable Minister for Social Welfare,Thirumathi V.Saraoja, Students from Namakkal,Karur, Erode,Salem, Trichy, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri districts had participated and brought sign of victory to their team. Organizing a fair with respect to science fair perspective, we followed the given below steps to make it successful.

Before start organizing the science fair, gathered a group of people who are responsible for the conceptualization and the implementation of the science fair. They are a group of teachers, students, and researchers, among others. Set Goals for the Science Fair – The science fair should be celebrated for a reason. It is important that we set goals for the program.

One of the activities for the science fair is the showcasing of the students investigatory and research projects. Apart from that, we have devised other fun and interactive activities such as science-inspired games in which the visitors had enjoyed it fully. We had invited prominent resource speakers to have a talk about the topics related to science.

Teachers Day Celebration

IOT Projects(Organic Farming)

The organic farming using hyperbolics method was initiated by Mr. C. Sathiyavel, Assistant Professor / Dept., of ECE. Students from are the project team members for this IoT based Organic Farming using Hyperbolics Method. The first stage started with the mechanical and civil construction for making the basic structure. Here, iron material (square type) was used for the structures. The whole structure dimension is 10x5x4 feet was constructed by welding process. The 75mm diameter PVC pipe were used for the farming with various fittings. A hole of 40mm diameter for placing the plastic cups were drilled. The holes were drilled with an equal spacing of 30cm. A 50 litre storage tank is used for the water supply using 3V-6V water pump motor for pumping a rate of 80-120 litre of water per hour.

A mixture of Vermi-composite and coco peat mixture kept at the sunlight for 5 days was filled in the plastic cups and placed at the wholes of the farming PVC pipe. The tomato speed and spinach speeds were filled such that, the composite is loose over the seeds and tight under the speeds at the bottom. The plant is expected to grow out from the composite at a period of 20 days.

Dean, Principal and HoDs of all departments seeded spinach and tomato for the organic farming.

Twenty days after sowing the seeds, the plant growth was seen above the composite. An adequate amount of water will be supplied to the plant daily. The twenty days growth of the plantation was monitored and observed that the height of the plant was 15 cm and the length of the root was 10 cm. An IoT system was connected using GSM module to monitor the temperature, water pH value, humidity and regular water flow. The level sensor is used to measure the water level and the pH value is measured through pH sensor. The motor for pumping the water will be turned ON whenever the desired range of value is not achieved.

On the sixtieth day, both the spinach and the tomato plant was found growing healthy. The IoT controlled system worked fine and the results on the control of the plant growing factors allowed a healthy environment for the plant. The organic farming can be extended in a large area for healthy farming and can be used for the daily usage. This initiative of Mr. Sathiyavel and his team creates an awareness of starting organic farming at our homes for a healthy life.
